The Bellaire Debate squad is currently the largest speech/debate program in the nation. Tournament travel is
expensive and in order to provide it for our students we finance it through a number of means. The annual Bellaire
Forensic Tournament raises some of the money that funds our squads tournament travel. Bellaire High School has
also provided some funds in the past (but that is dependent on the total amount of funds available for dispersement
as well as the financial requests made by other departments and groups in our building.) Needless to say, the
amount of money coming from Bellaire HS is not a fixed amount nor is it guaranteed. Mr. Stubbs also works on
getting funding from different grants and charitable foundations, as well as Bellaire Debate alumni.
In light of our other funding sources, parental contributions are a vital part of our continued tournament travel
plans. We ask parents to make a one time contribution per year to help sustain our tournament travel. The amount
(listed below) is based on your students experience in our program.
1st year students $140.00
2nd year students $195.00
3rd year students $220.00
4th year students $270.00
These fees are expected to be paid on or before Friday, October 21, 2016. Checks should be made payable to
"Bellaire Debate and may be turned in to Mr. Stubbs in class. If full payment is difficult, please contact Mr.
Stubbs concerning the establishment of a payment program. If the payment causes a financial hardship the student
can sell advertising for our BFT ad book and use the money from the ad sales to satisfy the obligation. Click here
for a copy of the Bellaire Ad Book Contract. Please notify Mr. Stubbs if your student plans to sell ads.
Parental contributions in amounts larger than those listed above are always welcomed and needed. Parents making
their annual financial contribution will be entitled to place a personal or professional ad in the BFT ad book.
Some of our parents work for organizations that encourage their employees to support groups like Bellaire Debate.
Please contact Mr. Stubbs if you work for a company (like ExxonMobil) that has a program for matching funds.
The money provided by these companies helps allow our students to continue participating in the activity they love.
Students travelling on overnight tournaments are expected to pay $20.00 to help offset the cost of the hotel with the
school paying any amount above. This should be cash that is turned in on the morning we leave for the overnight
tournament. Please contact Mr. Stubbs if this payment is not possible.
